Question
I found a sweet, stray (pregnant)Pit Bull in a grocery store parking lot. She has a few bite old bite marks on her head. My vet says she is healthy and will probably deliver in 2 weeks. No micro-chip or evidence of a collar. I have two older rescued dogs (for 5 years). I want to keep her and deliver the puppies and find them homes. I notified the local police. I will not take her to the Humane Society. At first she was shaking and growling at my dogs (on the other side of the dog run) but she is calming down. How do I socialize her to tolerate my other dogs?

Answer
Hi, Bob,

While she is pregnant, and especially after she delivers, you may want to limit or at least closely supervise her contact with the other dogs.  She will most likely be extremely protective of her puppies, and stressed from the birthing process.  This would most likely not be the best time to add to that stress by a lot of close contact with dogs she doesn't know.

I would suggest up until the time the puppies are born, and then gradually thereafter, using the suggestions outlined in these documents:
