Question
I have two 7 Month. old dogs and they chew everything, from their dog house, food bowls, toys, fence what can I do? I am worried that if I can't break this habit they are going to get sick or hurt themselves. Thank you for your time!

Answer
This could be anything from boredom to poor-quality dog food to obsessive-compulsion disorder. Eliminate the first two possibilities and you may be left with the last one.... plus it may be only one dog and the second picked up the chewing habit from the first one. Excessive chewing is also a sign of stress, as chewing helps to relieve stress in a dog. Think about why your dogs might be stressed and correct it.

Get those dogs out more, running and playing, take them for walks, put them on a treadmill... anything to get them moving more and tiring them out. Be more interactive with them! Get them into obedience classes for several months and work with them every single day. A tired dog is a good dog.

Be sure they are on a good-quality dog food. The first ingredient should be a specified meat meal (ie. chicken meal), there should be a minimum of grains, NO by-products, NO ethoxyquin, and NO menadione sodium bisulfate (source of vitamin K activity) in the food.

If improving those two things do not help, talk to your veterinarian about this, as there are medications to help dogs with OCD.
