My Pit Bull Puppys Skin is Itchy and Red All Over

Question
My puppy just turned two months yesterday. She is eating the chicken and rice formula dog food from "blue" or something along those lines... Ever since the first few days i've had her she's had a pinkish red tummy, throat, chest and toes... these are all of her white spots (she's blue). However she is also constantly biting on her feet and legs and pawing at her face... Now, I originally thought she might have food allergies however I just changed her food over to beef and a better food and it hasn't gotten any better... actually it's gotten worse... i've been putting some anti-itching cream with aloe vera  and it doesn't really help too much... I think it might be due to giving hwr so many baths... I've been having to give her a bath almost every day because she'll pee in her kennel while i'm at work and lay in it or she'll step in her poop while putside... my other dog's pulled an r. kelly on her too... so all in all she gets a bath amost every day... i've tried just rinsing her off... but she smells so bad... what can I do to better her skin? she's around 8 lbs or so... that's a total guess... she has had her first two sets of shots and dewormer as well... any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance

Answer
Hi Meghan,

I would double check with your vet to make sure she doesn't have a skin infection. Also keep in mind that dogs with light fur (white spots) are more prone to sunburn.

Overbathing can definitely be an issue. Is there anyway you can come home for lunch and let her out for a potty break or have someone come over for you midday? At this age she can't "hold it" all day long and really does need a break or two. That'll help with her peeing in the kennel and help your housetraining efforts greatly. If she has frequent accidents in her crate and is forced to sit in them all day it can have the same effect a pet store cage has on puppies. They basically learn to live in their own mess and that takes away from the reason crate training works so well. Crate training is effective because dogs don't like to soil their sleeping areas. However if they are forced to, the crate loses its effect.

How long has she been on the new food? It takes 6-8 weeks on a new food to see if its working or not. Sometimes things can seem to get worse for a bit too while the body gets rid of the bad stuff in its system.
