How do I find information on breeders in my area?

Fist resource: AKC.

When you do get in touch with the breeder, ask for references and ask about the bloodline, go to the house and see the mother.

Puppy mills are haneously evil and what you are looking to avoid.  You won't get any of those questions answered by a puppy mill, only reputable breeders.
