Question
I READ YOUR RESPONSE USING BAND-AID TO TIP THE EARS.  HOW FAR SHOULD WE TIP THE EARS AND SHOULD THE EAR BE FOLDED FLAT OR LOOSE AND THEN PLACE THE BAND-AID

THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXPERTISE

MELISSA

Answer
Melissa:
best answer:  attach with the ear sticking up.  none of the band aid pad should touch ear skin- only the sticky part on the inside of the ear and folded with the sticky part touching the back of the ear.  It should hang forward.  Let the ear fold itself down with the weight of the band aid.  If not heavy enough, try attaching a plastic bead inside of the band aid pad.  Apply lanolin or lotion to the fold AFTER placing the band aid to help keep the skin soft and promote the fold.

You are only doing the tip, thus an area about the size of an adult's pinky fingernail is tipped.  We are not looking to fold the entire ear in half, just the uppermost 10th or so of it.

IF the ear DOES NOT FOLD with the weighted band aid then go to speedsew and glue it down.  (Or forget about it and enjoy your slightly imperfect loving dog since you aren't going to breed or show him?)

Hope that helps!
Dave
