Sheltie Ears

Question
My sheltie pup's (12 weeks) left ear has just begun to slant toward the right side of her head - almost seeming to lay flat in that direction. The right ear is straight and usually not tipped. Up until the past week or so, both ears were tipped, and straight.

Could some sort of injury have occured to that left ear? This is my 2nd Sheltie. My sweet Moonbeam (16 years) died this summer on July 4th, and my new sweet little gal came from a litter born on July 4th!

Should I be worried about her left ear?

Thank you for your help!

Answer
Hi Sue,

I'm sorry about your loss, and happy that you had 16 years!  (I got a lot of grief telling people that Shelties live beyond 12 years and here is another example!)

I would tell you that the ear thing is just "a thing"; a quirk.  They can cock their ears sideways if they want to, but I haven't seen one stay sideways?  I am not aware of any injuries that can cause the ear to do that.  I'm also NOT a trained animal physician!

Do you see an injury?  Is there any sensitivity? Is she digging at the ear or scratching?  If no to those questions then don't worry about it.
