standard poodle in heat

i recently became the owner of a standard poodle.i understand that they go into heat every 6 months,my question is how long are they in heat for?

Its not just standard poodles.  All female dogs that are unaltered go into heat every 6 mo, however there are the few dogs every now and then that will only go into heat once a year.  Standard poodles can vary widely on the age that they go into their first heat.  Female dogs are typically in heat for 3 weeks.  That can vary from dog to dog and some can go a little longer.  They can be impregnated for that whole time period so its very important to keep them away from any and all males.  If you dont wish to breed or if your dog is not breeding quality, I recommend getting the dog spayed ASAP.
