Question
Marie, i have had a boxer pitbull for 4 years and recently got a pure breed pitbull who is now about 10 months old...im am not worried in anyway about my mix bread dog but my pitbull gives me some worrys..eveyone says that they do not mix well with children let along new borns... as far as his behavior he has been alright i guess.. he is a very big cuddle bug..loves everyone doesnt bark on a regualar basis but is always very jelous if you are petting or giving attention to our older mix he will get right up to you and try to get you to pay more attention to him then anything ... not in a aggresive way or anything. he is very sweet the only thing i have noticed is he doesnt like swinging hands even if its not in a aggresive way say you were to swat at a fly or wave your hands he doesnt like it.. he dont seem agressive or anything when you do it he just trys to like bite you hand like a not mean bite if that makes any sence.. and i dont know if it was because he was startaled or what but a couple nights in a row when i tried to wake him up to get him off the bed he growled at me.. but not like he was gunna bite but like he was bothered.. i guess what im looking for is some things to look for to tell me if hes not gunna be good around a child of maybe some information about how the breed is around infents if you could help me out that would be great...oh yeah and i herd that they get really jelous of the child is that true is that the route of the problems between dogs and children?

Answer
Hi Stephanie:  Newborns and pit bulls can be fine together... It just depends on how the dog is treated.  Sounds like your big boy need some behavoir training... He may have a little territorial aggression, too.
I would suggest you get a behavior trainer to come to your home... Just a few lessions is all you would need. Your dog needs to learn there are rules... He needs to respect you as the pack leader.

Here is a book that was written by a friend of mine:
