Does the choc lab have their own personality traits differant then the other labs?

I was told the dog guide school I volunteer for avoids breeding chocolate Labs because they are more hyper and had more hip problems.  That could be limited to certain lines of Labs.  They take chocolate Labs as donated dogs and many of them graduate.  There are fine lines of chocolate Labs.  For field use, the higher energy might be an asset.
