feeding my labrador retriever

Question
My 15 week old labrador retriever has three cups of food per day.  Is that too much?  or too little?  She acts as if I'm starving her.

Answer
Most Labs will devour more that is good for them, and look for more.  I am sure 3 cups is enough.  Check her ribs as illustrated at http://www.puppychow.com/products/popup_body_condition.aspx  Adjust her food and exercise as needed to bring her into ideal body condition before too long.  My 4 1/2 month old Holly came to me as a cute, but unhealthy butter ball.  I was about 2 months getting her down to where she should be.  She is small, so I am seeing how she does on 2 cups a day.

Switch to the adult version of what you are feeding as soon as you run low.  At least, stick to the same protein source and make the the switch over about a week.  Early switching to the adult chow and keeping the dog lean, slows growth allowing more time to develop the sturdy joints a dog needs for a long, active life.
