Question
Hi
I have 2 female 4 months old lab (black and chocolate.)  i also have an 11 year
old cat.  he grew up with a lab and they slept in the same bed, played etc.  the
dog was very good with the cat.  i haven't had a dog in a few years.  the cat is
afraid of the rambunctious puppies and they try to run after him.  how do i
socialize them to respect him and not go after him?
thanks!

Answer
The pups are just going to have to learn to live with the cat, on the cat's terms.  I would just make sure the cat has enough places to run and hide, and the pups will learn to not be so excited with the cat.  If you don't get too worried or upset when they chase the cat, and the cat has plenty of puppy-free areas to hang out, the dogs will just get over it eventually.

You can try holding the cat (if it's safe for both of you) and allow the pups a chance to sniff, which is probably all they want to do anyway.  And you might try that one pup at a time.  If you have a family member in the house, maybe they can take one pup for a walk or a car ride, while you spend time with the cat and the other pup.  That way it's not so overwhelming for the cat and the pups don't gang up on it.
