QuestionHi, i have a 7 month old chocolate lab. He is 22 inches tall at the shoulder. When he stands up straight, his rear part around his hind legs, looks a bit higher than the front region near his shoulder. But i thought that labs have bodies that smoothly reduces in height around the rear region. Does my dog have any problem like overgrown hind leg bone? I currently give him protein and calcium supplements to boost his growth. Should i stop giving these? Please help soon!!!!
AnswerCut out the supplements now. Fast growth is the last thing you want in a Lab or any other large breed. Besides, they mess up the careful balance in dog chow and do more harm than good. Also, switch to an adult chow. Slower growth gives the dog more time to develop sturdy joints.
I am not sure what to say on the excess height at the rear. Talk to your vet.
