Looking for the right breed

My family is interested in adding a dog, but my wife and I have some question having never owned a dog.  First I give you a little background information on us.  We are a family of five with three boys ages 1.5, 5 and 7 years old.  We live in Central Phoenix on half an acre with an all grass yard, our home is approx 3000sf.  My wife and I both work and are away from home 8-5 weekdays. We are looking for a dog who will be a loving companion and a good watchdog, additionally we would like a dog that sheds little to none.  One possible cross breed we are considering is a Labradoodle.  What is your opinion?

I think you would do well with a labradoodle, goldendoodle,or standard poodle...there are not many dogs that can stand up to rough play with kids and not be snappy that don't shed...but those three are possible prospects. Also beware all three have long hair two are cross breds and one is pure...with non sheding dogs genrally the fur is longer and needs to be kept cut...keep this in mind.
