Retriever cross cattle dogs

Hi just wondering if retriever crossed with cattle dogs are child friendly and if you know of any medical problems with these breeds?

A dog's experience with children in the 6-12 week old period is more important than its breed as far as children go.  

Cross breeds are less likely to have health problems, but if both parents were from poor stock, even a cross breed can have health problems.  At least the cattle dog isn't a frequent target of the backyard breeders and puppy mills.
