Male Lab

Question
Our male lab has run off and everybody is saying that he was in heat and is out and will be back in a week.  We live in the country.  Will he be back?  I don't know what they do when they are in heat.

Male dogs do not go into heat.  Only females.  It IS possible that someone around you has a girl in season and the dog smelled that and has gone to find her.

There is no telling if your dog will be back or not.  He could come back on his own.  He could also get in alot of trouble with bothering the neighbors, especially the one with the girl in season.  Or worse, he runs the risk of getting to a major road and getting hit by a car.  

If you get the dog back, I would recommend that the dog be neutered.  This will eliminate his need to roam when he smells a dog in season.  

You may want to go to all your neighbors and see if they have seen your dog.
