Question
i was thinking about adopting a rottwelier lab retriever mix at a shelter. i was wondering if that is a bad mix or if it could turn out to be a good dog. i have cats and am unsure if it would get along. also i read that rottweliers have a short life span and get alot of diseases. if the dog is mixed do you think that would still be the case?

Answer
Hello, Check with the backround of the dog at the shelter ask if it has been around cats/dogs/kids ect ect if it wa an indoor or outdoor dog and why it was surrendered. Labs are great dogs all around friendly with most anyone including kids, cats and other dogs, Rottys are noted as being *dog agressive and very powerful..could be hard to handle...but are loyal guards which makes them not  stranger friendly in most cases. The mix would be a mix of both of course but wll genrally take for more one breed or another. Either way its a big strong dog that will need time to adjust to your home but if it has a good history with cats then you should be ok. Royys are known tolive shorter then normal lives as far as dogs go....normaly only 8/10 years for rottys, whether's labs live 11/13...so the coss would live a fairlynormal length...both dogs have tehre share of health problems both are prone to hip and joint problems since they are both large breeds....wth a cross breed I've noticed with my mothers dogs and my friends mixed dog as well they have Less health problems then any of my dogs which are all purebreds.
