QuestionHello Jen,
We're considering breeding Lacy. I haven't read your thread yet but I
would love to read a GOOD book on breeding. Would you please
recommend one?
Thank you,
Dave
AnswerThere aren't too many that highlight every thing you need to know about labs. Especially ones that detail the hereditary diseases breeders screen for and evaluating pedigrees and proving the dog has merit to be bred in the first place.
All of these encompass bits of what it takes to breed a lab:
The Ultimate Labrador Retriever, Second Edition by Heather Wiles-Fone
The New Complete Labrador Retriever by Helen Warwick
Book of the Labrador Retriever by Anna Katherine Nicholas
The Labrador Retriever by Dorothy Howe
Labrador Retrievers Today (Book of the Breed Series) by Carole Coode
If you just had to get ONE, get this one:
Reaching for the Stars: Formerly Advanced Labrador Breeding (The Pure Dog Bred Series) by Mary Roslin-Williams
Then a MUST HAVE in regards to whelping, if you get that far:
The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies: A Complete and Practical Guide by
Muriel P. Lee
