QUESTION: Hi I have 12 week old working cocker spaniel she has diahrea not putting on much weight, took her to the vet had poo sample sent away they couldn't find anything don't know what to do next she has like a film over the top of her poo and a lot of jelly like substance. She supposed to go new home in 2 weeks can't send her like this she is lively enough.

ANSWER: A puppy with constant diarrhea is in danger of dehydration.

I'd like to know precisely what you're feeding and whether it's canned or kibble.

I'd certainly try a 1/4 tsp. of Metamucil (Unflavored - No sugar added on label)
twice a day in wet food.

QUESTION: Hi she is on Wainwrights puppy food and its dry nuts. Thx

Answer
Karen, since you're in the UK I'm at a loss re food.  Would most definetly try some psyllium (Metamucil...can you get it there?...unflavored, no sugar added on label).  Maybe ask your pharmacist.

with some dogs (and none of them drink enough but sometimes it doesn't matter) this will happen due to lack of fluid and fibre.  I'd take her off dry food.  Slowly.

You can also make homemade chicken broth.  Use just 1 boneless, skinless chicken breast..bring to boil in HUGE pot of water..simmer 'till done.

Strain broth into container through 3 layers of tea towel.  Can be frozen.  Do not keep longer than 3 days.  I put 2 cups into plastic baggies and freeze.

It worries me she's so young and can become dangerously dehydrated.  You can also put the 1/4 teaspoon of Metamucil into the "warmed" chicken broth.
