Shaking cocker spaniel

Question
QUESTION: My wife and I have a 3.5 year old female cocker spaniel. Yesterday she seemed to "freeze" as if she was really uncomfortable. She didnt appear to be in pain...I was able to pick her up as well as firmly press on her stomach and back. She also began to shake and appeared almost to have hiccups in her upper chest/lower throat. She would simply sit there and look sad, uncomfortable and shake a little bit with the hiccup symptoms. When I take her out she is peeing and pooping normally and everything appears just fine. It's almost like she is constipated. Any insight on this?

ANSWER: She may well have had a doggie version of hiccups :) but I'd like to know what you're feeding her?  How is her appetite?

And has this happened again today?

QUESTION: She did it again this morning and I took her into the vet. They checked her temperature, felt and listened to her stomach and seemed to determine that she had bloating and gas. They recommended that she take some gasex or pepcid today. She has been on Iams for the last 3 years, and has never had this problem before.

Answer
Well, I'm glad if that was it.  However, Iams is crap.  And I'm sure you are feeding her total kibble?

I'll just beg you to get her on a better food and not all kibble.
What I highly recommend for cockers is Innova EVO and a mixture of canned and kibble.

Any food change should be done slowly by adding a bit more of the new food every day.  And don't stick with one formula.  Innova EVO makes a white meat (chicken/turkey) and a red meat formula.  Use both.

To find out where to buy it, go to Naturapet.com and click on dealer locator in your area.

I'd also feed multiple small meals a day.  Same amount of food - just divided into smaller meals.

The reason I like the EVO for cockers is that it has no grains.
But you can alternate with the regular Innova too.  A variety of proteins is very important.
