Cocker Spaniel Order

Question
Hello, I too have a just gotten a Cocker Spaniel about a week ago.  She is about 4yrs old.  I'm having a BIG problem with the ordor as well.  The lady that I received her from was bathing her every two days.  Well I found out that she should be bathed only once a week.  Well when bathe her by day three she is stinking and each day it gets worse.  The lady that I got her from gave me everything for her including dog food and she eats Pedigree and I'm planning on getting her another brand when that runs out.  I also noticed that "Lady" my dog scratches uncontrollably.  She is an inside dog so I don't think she has flees or ticks.  I was told to keep her hair short around her tummy because it makes her itch, so I plan keeping that up, but the poor girl can't sit still for five minutes without scratching her ears and every other place.  What can I do to provide her relief?  She is scheduled to be spaded this Friday and I guess I can ask the Vet, but if you know of something before then I would appreciate it.

Answer
If she's scheduled to be spayed then you've already seen the vet, right?  No vet schedules surgery without an exam and bloodwork.

It sounds like your dog may have a skin yeast infection...In which case she should not be having surgery until it's cured.

Pedigree is crap.  I strongly suggest a better food which you won't find in the supermarket.  Innova - Newman's Organics - Merrick - Evanger's - Fromm are all good.

What are you using for shampoo?  Do you clean her ears regularly and with what?  What on earth do you mean "she's an inside dog"?  How often and for how long do you walk her?  What do you use for flea control?

And please...do NOT use any vet that would schedule surgery without examining the dog and addressing any problems beforehand.
