Bringing Chi-puppy into house with three cats

Question
Hi!
In a week we are bringing home a Chihuahua puppy (almost nine weeks old). We are a bit concerned about our three (all full grown) cats that also live with us. They are used to live with a dog (we've had one for 15 years but had to put her down recently), but we are afraid that they won't realize that this actually is a DOG & not a snack... What do you think?
Thank you!

Answer
Carla, sorry about your 15 yr old doggie...
Now, the new chi will be a challenge because it is so small.  The cats will know it is not a cat but may not know it is a dog...
You will have to protect your little chi from the cats when it is so small.  As time goes by they will all become friends.  Some will be best friends and some will just tolerate the new pup.

You will need to keep the pup away from the cats unless there is adult supervision at all times.  YOU know pups can be little pains!
At this point your need to help the cats get to know the new addition.

I am sure all will be fine:  BUT, please be careful, as the chi is not a play toy.

Good Luck
