Chihuahua occassional vomitting

Question
Hi, I have a small Chihuahua, about 9 years old. He`s been prone to vomitting on occassion over the last year, year and a half or so, and I`m concerned. I`ve taken him to a few different vets and they give him a fluid shot for dehydration and something for his nausea but that`s been it. He doesn`t do it often but maybe every few days or other week. Is this normal for his breed? I haven`t changed his food, and his overall behavior is fine, he`s not lethargic or anything. BTW I should also note that he was a rescue that we got from the Humane Society about 2 years ago, so I don`t know his history, but he`s been doing this almost since we`ve had him -- for example he threw up last Tuesday morning after our walk, he seemed fine otherwise, he threw up again in the middle of the night last night, but again he seemed fine otherwise and after we got up this morning he ate and drank and seemed normal.

Answer
Hi Doug...

Can you tell me more so that I can be of help to you?

When he vomits, what does it look like?  Does it look like undigested food?  Digested food?  White foam?  Yellow foam?  And what would you say it smells like?

I can't understand why any of the "different" vets you took him to didn't do a full blood profile so as to look for certain conditions and diseases.  Giving a 9 year old dog something for the nausea is nothing more than putting a bandaide on a problem.

In answer to your question, this is NOT normal for the breed.

Can you tell me what you're feeding him?

You can write me back with answers to my questions, but the VERY best thing you can do for this little dog is to get him to a reputable veterinarian who has experience with this breed and have him fully examined and have a full blood test run.

I look forward to hearing back from you if you decide to write again.  I deeply respect you for wanting to check into this problem and find resolution for your little Chihuahua.  You're very smart to check it out!
