Question
Hi, My husband and I are rescuing a 1 to 2 year old male english bulldog. We live in an apartment, I have been child proofing our place ie thing he may bump into, knock down, chew. Ibeen reading so much about them it feels that I am right back to where I started not knowing anything. He is a big boy at least 55 lbs and I would like to know what size crate he should have? And doggy bed I want to get him a durable one because there will be times I will not be home, but not for long periods of time and chew toys if any. any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Thank you

Answer
You want to get a crate that is at least 32"L X 24"W x 28" tall and a wire crate is better than the plastic ones. Try not to go over board when he comes home. Just let him settle in and get the lay of the land before friends and neighbors come to meet him. It's quite a culture shock for most dogs changing homes.

The Nylabones are best, heavy rubber Kong toys too, nothing with rope and no rawhide chews at all. A canvas type bed would be best I think.

Use the crate for him to sleep in and when you're not right there to watch him for the first few weeks. Then give him more time out in the house and see how he handles it. Treat him very similar to the way you would a new puppy, patient, kind and he'll be fine.
