My 11 week old boxer

Question
I have an 11 week old boxer pup. He weighs 10 lbs. I was wondering if that is a good weight. My Mother seems to think he is a mini. I have seen both of his parents and they are pretty big boxers. I can tell you that there were two other puppies in the litter that were smaller than him. is this normal? And will he be good sized when he is full grown?

Answer
There is no such thing as a "mini" Boxer. There are small framed, medium framed, and large framed Boxers according to their family genetics on both parent's sides.

He is almost 3 months old, and 10 lbs is way too small. He is literally not flourishing- called the "failure to thrive" syndrome.

Get him to a vet ASAP before he starves to death.

Get him on a high protein diet. If you are feeding him a "puppy mash" then get the highest quality, all natural (no corn, corn meals, and bi-products in it) puppy food, and soak it in goat's milk or the homemade formula below.

A homemade bottle formula is:

12 ounces evaporated milk (EVAPORATED not condensed)

5 ounce sterile water (either boiled and cooled down, or bottled water, or ready made baby water)

1 raw egg

1 cup PLAIN Yogurt (not the no fat low calorie- but plain whole) non-flavored.........

1/2 teaspoon Kayro syrup

Blend in blender- do not froth it.

Serve in baby bottle warmed like you would warm your own baby's bottle-- NO HOTTER.

Feed him with a baby bottle, and burb him. Important-- BURP HIM.

Mix this homemade formula in with his high protein, high quality puppy chow and allow it to soften up to the point that you can mash it up with a fork AND a spoon. Both fork and spoon mashing enures mashed food that he won't choke on. Mix it wet slurpy enough for him until he is older.

I would also offer him baby Pediloyte non-flavored clear, with his fresh water.

I would also add some plain whole yogurt into his puppy mash as well.

He need the good bacteria in the yogurt and all the calories he can get.

Get him to a vet immediately. That is WAY TOO UNDER WEIGHT!

I have 3 week old puppies, almost 4 weeks old, that way 5lbs each already on this formula and mom's milk.
