Question
I have a show quality Boston and a flat face Boston(french Bull, I'm told). they love sleep and play like puppies tho they are both 1 1/2 yrs old. been together approx 1 yr. The problem is they will all of a sudden stop and act like they are mortal enemies and go for blood. We neutered both to calm them, but when a guest or anyone comes in, they seem like one will get the attention and attack the other first. what causes it and how can we break this pattern.

Answer
Hello, You have a Boston Terrier and a French Bulldog two very different breeds....but smaller in looks none the less. Since you say you neutered I assume you have two males? Two male dogs neutered or not are prone to fighting and you have a bigger problem...you have two Dog aggressive male dogs which I wouldn't have recommended keeping together in the first place....if one were female it would be better. Just be sure they both get there fair share of attention...break up fights right away and give them dogs time outs in there separate crates for 5 minutes.... you can avoid fights by feeding them in there crates or separate areas and avoiding giving them rawhides or chews in the same room also each dog should have its set of toys. If the problem exists only when someone comes in...get them away from the door and into another room after the guests are in let them out. Also are you sure these are real fights? dogs will wrestle very roughly at times see my behavior and dominance page for info on dogs behaviors  its not quite finished yet
