Concern about shyness in new kittens

Question
Hi

About three days ago we got two Norwegian Forest Cats a boy and a girl - they are not brother and sister.

They are about 6 months old.

At the breeders they were reasonably playful.

In their new home they tend to shy away from us, hiding behind curtains, under tables, behind the couch etc,.

They don't really appreciate affection and we are concerned about them being happy.

We have previously had a Ragdoll and two British Blues, alongside our dogs (two Irish Wolfhounds and a Maltese).  We only have one of the British Blues left - he is about 14 years old.

We have been carefull about introducing the kittens to our other pets and so far we haven't introduced the Wolfhounds.

We don't want to have cats that shy away from company and hide in the house - which doesn't sound like Norwegian Forest Cats style anyway.

Are we being overly concerned too early, or is there anything you think we could do?

The kittens seem bright eyed and healthy - although we haven't checked them out with a vet.

Any advice?

Answer
Hi Jon,
there is nothink to worry about,Norwegian Forest Cats wont be like this forever. When they are a  kittens its hard for them to get use to  all the different animals,so you need to introduce them slowly. When your kittens go and hide behind a the table or anywhere else, just slowly walk up to your kittens and with a soft gentle voice just gently speak to your cats and tell them nothink is going to hurt them and just gently stroke them. They could also just be abit shy.
But trust me when they get abit older and there out of their shell they will be much different i promise you.Norwegian Forest Cats are meant to love the out doors in the summer, they are great hunters and they love attention from there owners and make great mums and dads if they have babies. So just give them time and soon you will notice what Norwegian Forest Cats can be like.
Hope this helps and good luck from Natasha.
