Caring for post surgery cat

Question
My cat just had a large cancer  on one of his kidneys and the vet removed the kidney, he has a reasonable change of survival.  I will be taking him home in two days and I am wondering if you had any tips for me.  I have stairs in my house and I don't know if that will be a problem and I have another cat from that same litter.  Shoud I separate them or do you think that she could be good for him.  Any tips would be helpful.
Thanks Donna

Answer
it just depends on a few things...

if the vet is going to make her wear one of those cone collars, you might want to close her up in your bedroom for a few days, and dont let the other can in with you and her at night.

if you think the stairs will be a problem, then try to block them off. it really just depends on the cat and how well she is doing by the time you get her home. letting the other cat around her might be comforting to her. you will just have to play it by ear.
give her a clean comfy bed and it might be a good idea to put food and potty and bed and her in the same room for a few days. like the living room or whatever room you are in most of the day. that way she wont have so far to walk to get to food and potty and bed.
good luck.
