Question
My cat, Chico, had work done on his mouth (gingivitis and two extraction, the canines)several weeks ago.  The night he came home for the vet I tried wet food as they suggested and he wouldn't touch it, at this point he had been without food for a day and a half.  I offered his usual dry food and he ate some.  Of course, his gums did not heal as fast as they should because all he would eat was his dry food.  Anyway I am trying to change him to a more dental friendly food (Hills T/D) and not only is the smell different the pieces are much larger than his previous food.  I have mixed some into his regular food hoping to increase it gradually.  He just throws the new food out onto the floor and eats the old food.  Any suggestions to get him to eat this new food.

Answer
Hi Carrie,

Cats like some people, do not like change.  Is he an older cat? If so, it might be difficult to change his eating habits.  You are doing exactly what I would suggest, gradually change it over, just do it very very slowly.

It it were me, and after a very long time trying to change him and he simply won't have any of it, I would just feed him what he likes.  But then, my animals are very spoiled and I guess I give in too easily...lol

God Bless and good luck,
Becky
