Kitten not eating all of a sudden

Question
Hi Dan,
I do not know much about cats, and neither does my Mother.  The question is for my mother.  She received a baby kitten about 8 weeks ago. He is 12 weeks old at this time.  This is a beautiful all white kitten, with blue eyes, and my Mother adores this kitten, and is very concerned about this kitten.  As of yesterday, he does not want to eat.  She normally feeds him a package of wet, soft kitten food 3 times a day.  Now all of a sudden this kitten is not interested in eating.  Yesterday he just nibbled, and drank the broth, and today, the kitten has no interest in eating at all.  I just got off the phone with my Mother and she is very worried about this kitten not eating. It is very hot here in California, around 106 average, and she is wondering if the heat has something to do with him not eating?  Or do you think he could be sick? How does a person determine if a kitten is ill? Please advise me on what to tell my Mother.  Thank you very much for any info you might have.  Thanks again.....Irene:>)

Answer
Sometimes a cat may not eat due to changes near him or her. Your cat is it Siamese? I recommend taking it to the vet for a checkup ASAP. Cats should have a checkup at least once a year. Cats also need certain health shots to keep it healthy. Is the cat an indoor cat or outdoor? I assume the cat has not had it's checkup yet? This may be a good time to bring it in for it's checkup and some shots.
