male cat after neutering

My cat is 7 mos old and was just neutered today.  The vet said that he should
eat a lite dinner and that water should be given to him first.  It is late and he
was finished with the procedure by noon.  Lucky still hasn't drank any water
(or ate anything) since he has been home (about 6 hrs now).  Should I be
worried?

No, I would not be worried.  See how he is in the morning.  If he is still not drinking, you could check with the vet.

Neutering should be a relatively simple procedure, but different cats react to anaesthetic in different ways (just like people).
