Clavamox side effect

Question
Hello hello. I've just adopted a one year old cat. She was spayed a few days ago and given two medications. The one that is giving her problems is Clavamox drops which initially made her drool profusely. I took her to the vet and everything seemed fine (temperature, nose, throat, etc). But now she won't eat at all. And she's very lethargic and depressed. I know lost of appetite is a side effect of this antibiotic. But I really want her to eat especially since Clavamox should be given with food. I am wondering whether force-feeding her is a good idea. And if so, how should I do it? She seems already stressed Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi Hollie.  Yes, any medication, unless otherwise stated, is usually good with a little food.  Force-feeding is not so great of an idea, however, here is a tip that I found worked for me when my little girl had the same issues.

Go to your regular supermarket and get some baby food (beef flavor, chicken, turkey whatever) and warm up a bit of that.  HOWEVER - MAKE SURE THERE IS NO ONION POWDER IN THE FOOD!  I believe Heinz makes a baby food with no onion powder in it... but make sure to read the label.

Warm the baby food up a little, so its' aroma hits your kitty's nose faster and more strongly, and she should lap that right up.

Good luck!
