My Cat nurses on herself!

I found and kept a very small kitty. She was terrified when I found her and very young.
she is fine now and about 5 months old, except sometimes she nurses on herself. She sucks the tip of her tail and does the baking bread motion. She is really sucking and it can be loud.Is she perhaps insecure from losing mom so young? she does not hurt herself but it seems so strange.

It is more likely that she is bored. Get her some different toys. Get her hanging toys to swat at. A cat tree is also good. Make sure she has a lot of play time. Or the best thing of all, get another cat. Two cats together are great for each other. She won't have any time to be bored with a friend in the house. Good luck.
