Tonkinese - Applehead Siamese - Korie

Question
QUESTION: Norm - I wanted you to know that Korie had surgery.  They removed the mass (1 x 2 inches) from his GI tract and have sent it away for diagnosis.    Korie is doing pretty good considering.   He came home and is eating the Science Diet AD formula.  He is using his litter box and looks much better in his eyes and fur.   My guess is that the mass will be cancer.  What is generally the next step - have you seen or experienced this?   He is on an atibiotic but just started sneezing.   Thanks for any thoughts or input.

Jeanne

ANSWER: Jeanne,

Yes, we have experienced this, but our experience has not been very good.  You just must see what the pathology shows about the mass.  If it is a cancer, therapy may buy him a couple of more months (maybe 6 at the outside), but I have heard of some full recoveries (quite, quite rare).  So you and your vet will have to see what your options are depending on the diagnosis from the mass!

QUESTION: Thank you Norm - results came back - it's adenocarcinoma which I'm sure you know is a very aggressive cancer.   Korie is doing exceptionally well today.  Eating - playing - purring.  His staples come out next week - we'll talk to the vet then.     We want him to be happy and comfortable.

Thanks much for everything -

ANSWER: Jeanne,

As long as Korie is having a good quality of life, I would not do anything.  From what I understand, aggressive chemotherapy may give your cat 6 more months, but what will be the quality of life for the cat?  If Korie begins to deteriorate, then you will have to make a difficult decision.  As long as Korie is doing well, just enjoy whatever time you may have with him.  After all, sometimes, miracles do happen.

Optimistic regards... Norm.

QUESTION: Norm,  Korie is enjoying life.  We will not pursue chemo but will monitor him.   Silly question have you ever heard of the Petalive C caps?   any harm in giving a cat something like this?

Thanks much,

Answer
Jeanne,

No, I have never heard of them, but I did look them up on Google.  From looking at the list of ingredients, I do not believe they would hurt Korie.  They may not help him either.  However, I would discuss it with your vet and consider using them on the premise you may have little to lose.

Be very watchful and at the first sign of any abreaction or deleterious side effects, stop the treatment immediately.

Meanwhile I will post the fanciershealth list and see if anyone has heard good or ill of this product.

Best regards... Norm.
