drooling cat

my cat (Giru) almost 8 year old male and very sociable has never purred, i have read that this behavior is normal in some cats and not to worry but what i have realized is when my cat is happy instead of purring he drools/dribbles, it's something he has been doing for the past 3 maybe 4 years and I've never really given it importance because apart from that he is in perfect health! but recently some cat owner friends have been pointing it out. i wanted to know if this was normal for a cat to do, could it be some sort of teeth or mouth problem?

Yes, there are some cats who drool when they are happy, but usually they start this behavior at a very young age.  Given that Giru is 8 years old and it started when he was 4 or 5 years old, I would seriously consider taking him to the vet for a complete dental exam.  If he has not had his teeth and gums checked recently, this would be a must!
