Question
Our 15 month old cat pooped on a living room chair, she has always gone outside, having been adopted from the woods at 6 mths. this was during a bad snowstorm, deep snow, tho she peed outside. Stools firm, large quantity

Answer
Hi Donna.  I suspect it's probably because of the snow.  My dogs will dodge out in the snow to pee but will still come in and leave number 2 presents when the snow is deep.  I would recommend providing her a litter box, at least for the winter.  But if you do provide a litter box and she still poops in the living room, then I think she should be seen by a vet.  She could have some constipation that's causing her pain, a main cause of inappropriate toilet habits in cats.

It would be best to wash the stained area with an enzymatic cleaner such as Nature's Miracle, available at pet stores.  The enzymes in this cleaner will break down fats that are present in cat stool that can make stains stick.

Hopefully all is back to normal soon!
