Question
HI norman,
On 8/23 you helped me at lot with my cat's acne. Everyhting is now stainless steel and washed very often and she is improving, thanks to you. Where can I buy Neo-Predef powder as you mentioned?Want to avoid local vet and quit  ChlorihexDerm.
New question: Have fed all my cats for very many years with dry Science Diet and no problems. Now column by vet Micheal Fox says all dry food will cuase obesity, diabetes, urinary problems, etc. Says give cat occasional raw chicken wing tip.
Can just see her dragging it all over carpet, beds and me.Do you by it ?Ground may be better if raw.Doesn't take much to make a cay vo,it over new strange foos. Thank you.

Answer
Bill,

While cats are obligate carnivores and a raw diet with the appropriate vitamins, minerals, and herbs is, overall, better for a cat, many, many cats seem to thrive on dry food diets.

Michael Fox, although theoretically correct, does not seem to take into account that cats seem to do well in spite of what we feed them.

If you want to embark on raw, you may want to subscribe to the catnutrition email list.  Send an email to:

The advantage of ground (including bones) is that you can start to put a little in with your dry food and slowly move your cat more and more into the raw.

In our cattery, we have moved to a mixture of raw (we like Blue Ridge Beef) and good canned (Friskies or 9-Lives) and dry food + our vitamin/mineral/herb mixture.  Our cats are doing very well on this mixture.  In so doing we cut the amount of dry food down to 1/3 what we used to feed, but we did do this gradually!

Also, I did a web search on neo predef and turned up a number of hits, so it should be really easy to get via the Internet.  I like K-V Vet supplies or Fosters and Smith pet supplies for such purchases.

Best regards... Norm.
