Question
I have sibling cats, brother/sister who are almost a year old.  I plan to have them fixed however I do not have the $600 required to do so at this time.  My male has been desperately trying to mate and is coming extremely close.  I am worried that they will successfully have at it in times when I am unable to interfere.  What would happen if they were to mate?  If she got pregnant?  Do they have the same issues as humans?  I should be able to get them fixed in a few weeks time but I am becoming increasingly worried by how aggressive he is becoming with her regarding this.  I fear he will succeed at some point. Please help. Thank you

Answer
Katie,

First off, you can get the male neutered as this is usually the less expensive surgery.

If the girl got pregnant, depending on how inbred they already are, would indicate the chances of having problems.  The more inbred they are, the more the chances of genetic problems cropping up just like in people.

Surely they are not talking about $600 just to neuter the male!?!?!?!? If so, I would see another vet.

The girl can always be spayed later.

Best regards... Norm.
