One of my cats keep peeing in their drinking water

Question
Can someone please help!I have 2 cats who live in the house 24/7,but I have built a catery outside which hopefully they will move into when the weather gets warmer. The problem that I am having is that one,or maybe even both,of them, keep peeing in their own drinking water. This has only been happening only since our heating system broke down during a recent cold snap, but has been since  repaired,

Thanks a million,

Ollie from Dublin Ireland

Answer
Hi
well this is a little unusual. I assume their drinking water bowels are not close to their litter trays? Which may be confusing them a little.

It may be that there has been some recent changes or disrupting in your home which has caused them to feel a little anxious (perhaps the building of the cattery ?)

Also if there is any splashes or urine on the wall or floor near the water bowels this would also encourage them to use the area again. Clean the whole area thoroughly, even the walls.

It may be helpful to give your cats a period of litter re training, this involves a period of confinement to allow them to settle down again. it is not a punishment, instead it should help them tom relax. Please see my page here for more details on this
