Question
Hi, My cat,Tom, is twelve, almost thirteen, and he has Chronic Renal Failure. He is taking a pill and he is on a prescribed food for it. I just noticed that his breath is terrile, it's never smells good. But, it just smelled very bad when he licked me. I know bad breath is a bad sign in cats. Could this have anything to do with his food or pills, or CRF? I thought it was common for cats with bad breath to have thyroid problems. I don't know if he needs to go back to the vet, what do you think? Thanks a lot!

Answer
Hi Brooke, Yes, bad breath in a cat can mean kidney failure, liver failure or dental decay.
Next time you are in the VET for blood work, talk to them about your concern. I know you mentioned that your cat is already in kidney failure.

Please consider getting this kitty onto a good supplement.  Most of my Renal client take 1/2 teaspoon per day of the NuVET powder supplement - Just mix into the food daily.
You can also mix into a small amount of Tuna or low fat cottage cheese.
