Kitten pooing just outside her litter box

Question
Hi there,

My 14 week old kitten VeBee has been pooing, on occasion, just outside of her litter box. We're not sure why because the litter box is mostly always clean and we have the more expensive high-absorbing kitty litter. This has happened twice, and once she has pooped in the shower (the cheeky little monkey knows how to open the shower door). The shower is right next to where her kitty litter box is. She has also urinated once in a box that was sitting in the lounge, quite a distance from her kitty litter box.

HELP! :)

Answer
Since the kitten is still very young, she most likely is just being like a child. She uses the box sometimes but then fools around and poops elsewhere to get your attention. She may be into doing some activity and doesn't want to bother going to the box.
There are many other reasons kittens do this as well. Could that particular litter be hard on her paws? Is the kind you have scoopable?
If you have a lid on her box, take it off. She may be scared to go in there as well.
Make sure that if she misses the box next time, that you take some time to watch your cat closely and to put her "physically" in her litter box soon after meals and treats.
The idea is for you to have her associate the box with going to the bathroom. Cats usually pick it up quickly.
Give it a few more weeks.
If you have done all this and you still have the problem, then it could be something bowel/bladder related and she should be examined by your vet.
Good luck!
