Cat wetting peoples bed

Question
Hello, we have a 15 old female spayed cat and two other cats. She uses the litter box but lately has started to wet my bed. No new people or environmental changes.Vet has checked her and no health issues. Any suggestions to stop this behavior.

Answer
Susanna,

At age 15, she is very geriatric, so I suspect this is some of the issue.  I would expect she has lost some control back there.  Is she drinking excessive amounts of water? Is she peeing excessively in the litter pan?  Sometimes, if they saturate the litter pan, they will choose somewhere else to go.

If the answer to any of the above is yes, she may have kidney issues (common for geriatric cats).  So, it may be she needs access to another litter pan.  BTW, even before the kidney indicators (BUN, createnin) are elevated, there could be loss of kidney function.  The first indicator is excessive drinking of water and excessive peeing. Your vet can also check to see if she is concentgrating her urine properly.

You might also try a Feliway diffuser in your bedroom. These are available from most pet supermarkets.   You also have to make sure you clean any area on which she wets with an enzyme based cleaner specifically for pet stains and pet odors (again, available from most pet supermarkets or farm stores).

Please let me know how you make out.

Best regards... Norm.
