Question
My kitten is 6 months old and has a cold. She finished antibiotics but still is a little stuffed up. She can be playing climbing and running one day then not feel good the next.  For the most part her. Appetite was good. What can I do for her at home to ease her congestion?  I have a call out to the vet for decongestant but want to know what I can do for her from a nursing aspect.

Answer
Hi Kris,

Thanks for your question.

I suggest using a cotton ball moistened with warm water to keep the eyes and nose clear of discharge. Wipe very gently to remove dry, crusted discharge.

Steam up the bathroom by running the shower on the hottest temperature setting and sit in there with the kitten for about 15 minutes. This will help ease congestion. Be sure to hold the kitten to prevent her from getting near the water.

Use a room vaporizer in the place that the kitten stays to continue easing nasal congestion.

Relieve nasal congestion With a pederatic nasal spray. Use it for a maximum of four days to keep the mucus membranes from drying out.

Hope this helps,

Ben.
