Secrets Natures Garden Cat and Kitten Flea medication

Question
Hello,
I'm terrified. My cat has 7 kittens, 5 weeks old. the fleas have got bad. I used the Nature's Garden on the Mamma cat & was thinking if I kept her away from the kittens until it was dry that it should be fine. However, after I had used the drops, I started thinking that the formula may get into the milk & hurt the kittens. I kept the Mamma away from the kittens for 8 hours, but then she slipped past me & went straight to the kittens. I'm very scared, I'm afraid I've hurt the babies.. Do you have any idea? I'm out of my mind with worry.. Thank You... Myra

Answer
Myra,

I am not familiar with Nature's Garden, in general though it is advisable that you use remedies that you can get from your vet that have been proven to be safe. Just because something is natural doesn't automatically make it safe for use on you or your pet, arsenic is natural but it is highly toxic. I would give your local vet a call and just find out what you need to be watching for. It is possible that this product is not harmful, but as I said, I am not familiar with it. At 5 weeks old the kittens may well be okay as the usual age for many products to be applied directly to the kittens is about 6 weeks or so. Provided that you didn't actually apply any onto the kittens you may be okay, in my experience of treating fleas on kittens under 6 weeks or on their moms usually the vet will apply a treatment to mom like Advantage and that will be effective in treating mom and the babies...Unless you see any serious signs that something is different like the kittens seeming dull or their behavior vastly changing it isn't a medical emergency. If you notice anything like the kittens being unresponsive or other things that mean that the kittens are not themselves I would suggest an immediate trip to the nearest vet, but other than that I would watch and wait....I hope that this helps.
