Question
I have a 2 yr old calico cat.  She had kittens previously and we kept one.  Unfortunately since then my husband and i lost our employment. My cat just gave birth on Saturday evening which she delivered 2 kittens.  We didnt know she was expecting. (By all rights we shouldnt have any due to my severe allergies but we have difficulty finding homes)  My cat is still "spotting". is that normal? We noticed she tends to leave the box for periods at a time and leave the babies alone. It troubles me.  Why would she do this?

Answer
Hi Amy,
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Have a house full of feral kitties I am trying to tame. Spoting is ok after labor. Leaving the babies alone for a bit is also ok. She leaves them alone because little teeth are sharp. And she needs a break form nursing them. Just make sure they are warm. Try to contact an cat rescue about the kittens. Or stand outside WalMart with them. They will be adopted fast. Hope this helped. Good luck and take care.

Ciao, Karen
