Question
Hi, I was wondering if you could offer any input advice? I have a 2 1/2 year old male cat, he will be 3 in a month. He has some sort of rare neurological disoder. After many test with 4 different vets, including specilist nothing can be found that is physically wrong. Over 17,000 dollars in vet bills in just 1 year. Basically my cat can not tolorate any sort of soild diet. Just one bite and he will get sick everytime. He has lived his life off of KMR kitten formula. He still gets sick often but is okay. He has always been a bit underweight but never to bad to where he is suffering. He is my pride and joy and I want him as healthy as can be. I don't know to much about cat nutrition and see all kinds of homemade kitten formulas. Can you recommend any that are actually healthy. I just started adding eggs to his food. Boiled just a tad to harden the white but keep the yolk as is. Then I blend till it is liquid. If you don't know of any KMR formula's then any other suggestions. I have to keep Bazil as healthy as possible but don't fully understand cat nutrition. I have not heard the best things about KMR. But I know it is okay for young kittens that are only on it for a short period until weaning. Bazil has been on it his whole life. I have had to hand raise him so I don't know nothing about his littermates, he was just droped off outside one day. He has had the same problem since weaning and can only tolorate pure liquid. Any insight on how I can offer the best nuturtion for him. After so much work with the vets I have found that they really don't have much experence with his sort of problem. In fact they told me he would only life till maybe 3-4 months old. I talked with specialist all of the county and have found none that can seem to put any insight in to Bazil's problem. I just had to do trail and error myself. I just don't understand nutrition. Any advice would be great. I do try and give him a liquid vitiam suppliment for cats at least a few times a week, but I want to do everything I can to insure that he stays as healthy as possible.

Answer
I would recommend CLINICARE which is a balanced liquid diet especially for cats.   Cats are true meat eaters and really should eat meat, so if you can give him meat baby food this would help increase his calories.  You could also consider some of the raw food diets such as Prairie made by Nature's Variety.  Prescription Diet A/D is a mushy food as well that could be mixed with the Clinicare.

www.catnutrition.org can give you some more insight and there are many websites that have some recipes too

And I would suggest giving him Transfer Factor Animal Stress Packs to try to build up his Immune System.  This is especially formulated for sick animals and can be mixed with water and given orally or added to food.

I would also highly recommend adding digestive enzymes to his diet to help him process his food as well as probiotics.  Dancing Paws Shake 'N Zyme is a good formula and also feeding plain yogurt.

Best Wishes.
