abcess on rear end

Question
I took my beloved cat Sandy to the vet today..turned out she had a huge abcess on her anus
anyway to get to the point..the vet said it is not uncommon for them to get infections in that area.
i was wondering if there are some things i can do to help reduce the chance of this occuring again
thanks! (of course I forgot to ask my vet that question since I was anxious about the cat)

Answer
Most abscesses in cats are from another cat biting them (and in the rear end because they were running away from confrontation).  If she goes outside, then do not let her outside as this will prevent her from being attacked.  If there are other cats in the house, then I would keep a close eye on them as they are fighting.  You can get FELIWAY Diffusers to help ease stress for them.

If there was no other cat exposure, then I would say it was very odd for her to have an abscess, unless she bit herself or got something stuck in her backside.
