dog - swelling neck

We are bear hunters with hounds.  Our 9 year old walker hound has been pretty run down after chasing bears daily.  We left him home to rest.  Yesterday, I noticed that his collar was tight so we loosened it - his neck is swelled up.  Now this morning he is having muscle spasms in his neck and it is still swelled up??  We have given him penicillan yesterday and today.  Any ideas on what is wrong with him?

Hi Steph, I highly recommend you take him to the vets immediately. The tightness or the force of the collar could of damaged his neck or he could be developing intevertebral disc disease, which needs treatment.Only the vet can determine this through an examination.
