Japanese Chin Eye Swollen Shut

Question
Hello,

My Japanese Chin's eye got poked on accident and it has been about 36 hours since.  Now her eye is completely swollen shut, and she is lethargic (usually very peppy 24/7).  What could possible be going on?  Does she need a vet or is there a medicine we should try for her?

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Her eye is in need of a vet, not medicine.  I tell people never, ever to mess with an eye injury and always have the vet look at it right away. You can avoid disasters that way. An eye swollen shut after this long is a serious thing. She is lethargic because she is in a lot of pain at this point in time.

Her eye could have ruptured, her eye could be herniating inside, her eye could be filled with blood at this point. I have no way to tell, but I have seen my fill of eye injuries that were old.

Many times the eye can be saved, but with permanent damage. She may even lose it. Only the vet can tell you that and sometimes only after a few days of treatment to get the swelling down.

My best advice to you is to get her into the vet's first thing in the morning. Don't wait one more day.
I hope she is okay, please let me know what the vet says.
