Question
Our female, 12 yr. old westie has loud gurgling noises in her intestines.  She eats only Hill's ID canned food.  She has always had a sensitive digestive system but more so now.  She occasionally has blood in her diarrhea and vomit - small amounts but definitely there.  In the past, if we "forced" her to get a small amount of food in her stomach the gurgling would stop.  She seemed o.k.  The past month or so the gurgling is more frequent and today was still there after she ate a small amount of food.  I know she has pain as she will moan, her tail is tucked tight and she hides from us.  The vet hasn't come up with much for us and we need to find some relief for her.

Answer
First of all, it sounds like you are saying that her stool is always diarrhea, like this is the normal way for her stool to be?

And secondly, what has your vet told you? Why is she on I/D, does she have some type of chronic disease, such as protein-losing enteropathy or Chrons disease?

You might want to put her on a short course of cimetadine which is tagament and see if that helps. I would ask your vet if it is safe for her since I have no idea if she is on any medication.

I don't have enough information here to really be of much help. You might want to try some dry I/D on her as it sits in the stomach a bit longer and might help with the gurgles.

The blood you see now and then is more likely from small ruptured vessels from the vomiting and diarrhea. But again, it sounds like there is a lot of that going on and I am not getting the whole picture here.
