Hamster is ill

Question
I have a Syrian hamster, named Kubina who is 16 mos old. Last night and today he is not eating or drinking, he has matted eyes which I have been cleaning. I don't use cedar or pine bedding. He did urinate and it was dark. The vet will not see him till tomorrow. All Kubina does is sit in the corner and has his eyes closed. This is not the usual way he is. He usually is climbing, upsetting his food bowl to get the goodies, and when I put my hand in the cage he wants to come out to sit on my shoulder. I would appreciate anything you have to say.

Hi Dori! Unfortunately, it sounds as though an infection is present and veterinary care will be needed. I know you can not get into the vet until tomorrow, but there is nothing you can really do to cure him until then.
Be sure to keep him warm. If you have an eye dropper, feeding him a sugar water mixture with the eye dropper will help keep his electrolytes up since he is not eating.
